Just as an update, my Spyder is the old one as well. I tried it with Windows 7 last night, and it installed fine, but when starting the program it asks you to select where the Spyder is attached. It then says that it can't find it and won't continue. I noticed that after I plugged the unit in (after software install) that Windows7 recognized it as the Spyder2, not the original Spyder. It could be that since W7 labeled it as Spyder2 and not Spyder that PhotoCAL can't find it.

I might try to manually change the.inf it uses to the one on the disc instead of the one that W7 picked. Also, as a side note, I did manage to correctly install and operate the Spyder in Windows7 as a Guest through a VirtualBox with Ubuntu as the host.

This is what leads me to believe that it's a configuration error and not an incompatibility. I have just installed 2.7 (©2003) on Win7. The system did not like the installation disc - managed to open that with 'explore' or similar selection (think the option list has changed ). Once in folders photoCal application.exe and on without a hitch.

I suppose there might be a workaround by getting the contents of an installation disc onto another medium - don't know how the security would work. For the record I had it installed on Vista too but cannot remember if the XP emulation handled it - and I'm not going back to Vista to find out! Under Vista I had regular failed boot-ups entailing prolonged restore/repair sessions - not good for the blood pressure with press photographs to send.

Since Win7 and I'm touching wood with the other hand - not a single problem - and it shuts down when I want to go to bed.
