(March 24, 2004) — Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has announced here, at the Mid-America Trucking Show,the release of its TOOLBOX™ Software Version 5.0, offering technicians enhanced antilock braking system (ABS) diagnostic capabilities. The software is a PC-based diagnostics program that provides technicians key information when an ABS diagnosis is under way:.A display of both constant and changing information for the system under test (e.g. ECU number and RPMs, respectively).A display of both active and stored system faults, as well as the appropriate repair instructions.Activation of system components to verify system integrity, proper component operation and installation wiring Version 5.0 updates include diagnostic capabilities for three additional functions: hydraulic power brake system with integrated ABS (HPB), electronic leveling module (ELM) for tractors, and ELM for trailers. Also incorporated in this update is comprehensive service and repair information for tractor and trailer pneumatic ABS, as well as “add-on” hydraulic ABS (HABS).

One of the most important improvements to the software is the ability to download future revisions from an FTP site. This will allow for easier, more timely access to upgrades. For users who cannot access an FTP site, the revisions will also be available on disc. Dennis Sandberg, president of Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems commented, “Since its inception, TOOLBOX has proven itself to be a beneficial instrument in keeping vehicle downtime to a minimum.

Version 5.0 incorporates some of our advanced ABS functions and provides technicians with even more valuable diagnostic information.” Originally developed in 1999, the software has made significant in-roads in streamlining ABS maintenance procedures.
