  1. Office Software Protection Platform Install

Hi all, We're facing a serious issue at the moment. Every Terminal Server ( Remote Desktop Services Windows Server Standard 2008 r2 x64 ) is showing performance issues for logged in TS Users and MS Office.

Users report system freezes for 20-30 seconds at a time, multiple times per day. The Terminal Servers are running in VM's ( VMWare ESXi 5.0 U1 ) From the Windows/Application logs, we have the following entry showing up multiple times per minute (! ) Log Name: Application Source: Security-SPP Event ID: 1003 Level: Information User N/A OpCode: Info Logged: 19/4/2012 3:17:47 PM Task Category: None Keywords: Classic Computer server1.XXXXXXX.XXX The Software Protection service has completed licensing status check. The license server is discovered by using a mailslot broadcast.

Because many networks do not allow broadcasts, we recommend that you add the following registry key information about the Windows 2000-based terminal server so that the discovery process for the license server will work: HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentCon trolSet Se rvices Ter mService P arameters Name: DefaultLicenseServer Data type: REGSZ Data value: is a placeholder for the NetBIOS name or for the IP address of the license server that you want to use. (Do not use servername.) Determine whether licensing has been installed in the domain role or in the enterprise role. In this environment, licensing must be in the domain role: HKLM System CurrentControl Set Servic es TermSer vLicensing Parameter s Role REGDWORD 0x00000000 0 = Domain Role 1 = Enterprise Role. Hi 123problems, No, sadly this did not fix our problem, which in the meantime we have fixed ourselves. Somehow, the license key ( MAK ) disappeared. We found out by using the following CMD c: cscript '%ProgramFiles% Microsoft Office Office14 ospp.vbs' /dstatusall This showed our MAK key as UNLICENSED, where a KMS key showed asOOBGRACE.

Jun 04, 2015  The Office Software Protection Platform service is generally started on demand when a user has started Office, however, there are license types which can start the service otherwise (such as those using a Key Management Server). As for stopping the service, there are several reasons we do not automatically shut down the service by default. O23 — Service: @%SystemRoot%system32vaultsvc.dll,-1003 (VaultSvc) — Unknown owner — C:Windowssystem32lsass.exe (file missing) O23 — Service. S3 osppsvc;Office Software Protection Platform; C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedOfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatformOSPPSVC.EXE [2010-01-09.

( which is a trial period ) We don't use KMS keys, so this was pretty strange. By using the command: c: cscript '%ProgramFiles% Microsoft Office Office14 ospp.vbs' /? You can see the options for the script, one of which is to install the license key through commandline. We did this, logged in a user on the Remote Desktop Services ( TS ) server, and started MS Word. A pop-up appeared that the License needed to be validated, clicked 'Online Validation' and it was done. Seems to have worked ( for now ).

I have the same problem. Event ID - 1003. Source - Office Software Protection Platform Service. ' The Software Protection service has completed licensing status check.' Runs 2-10 times a day.

Six entries at a time. Last 1-5 minutes. Some times runs back to back to back (six entries, 5 minutes later six more) What is the issue and why do I need to check my licensing status more than once ever?

How can I stop these checks that are of zero value to the client and are stealing stealing valuable clock cycles $$? Config. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Office 2010 Pro Plus - 14.0.4763.1000 (had to goggle how to find that out, not googling how to find out what it means because it should be Help - About and not an Orienteering project) Breaking Windows Since 1993. I have the same problem. Event ID - 1003.
